As Winter slowly moves on in South Africa, the ACGL UNI Third Term Split has come to an end. It was an eventful season that saw new universities and students rise to the challenge. WeThinkCode_CT joined the fray and compete against the established universities. The three main titles played during the split were FIFA22, Rocket League and Clash Royale.

The Rocket League finals was a grudge match between Stellenbosch University and the University of Cape Town. Notoriously, these two teams have clashed in the finals throughout the year. UCT was looking much stronger after their recent performance at the Student Showdown. History had favoured Stellies, but this time UCT came out the gates and won the first two games in the best of seven series. Stellenbosch did not wither away however, and turned it around for an exciting reverse sweep.

Rocket League results:

  • 1st Place: Stellenbosch University
  • 2nd Place: University of Cape Town
  • 3rd Place: Varsity College

Full results can be viewed here.

FIFA 22 saw the Durban University of Technology dominate the field, taking third, second and first place. UNISA’s best student - and Western Cape’s Student Showdown champion - Maino11 placed fourth. The top positions were otherwise filled with students from North-West University and Mangosuthu University of Technology. All these universities can be proud of their students performance, with some of these players competing live at the USSA Championships in late September.
