The second year of the online ACGL UNI has begun with intense competition as institutions vie for spots and seeding in the USSA Finals at the end of the year. This Split saw the introduction of Rocket League and the continuation of FIFA and Clash Royale.

Each tournament attributes points to each university based on how their players placed in the final tournament.

FIFA 22 

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) dominated the top positions for FIFA 22 placing second through fifth. The University of Johannesburg’s Rulani Mtshali placed first, with DUT’s Sifiso “Mafiswana” Dlaminii and Zothani “desperado” Ngongoma placed second and third respectively. 

FIFA22 Final Scores:

  1. DUT: 53 Points
  2. UJ: 29 Points
  3. UCT: 16 Points 
  4. SU: 12 Points

Clash Royale

Clash Royale enjoyed the return of many strong players from 2021, but saw the University of Cape Town’s new participant Kaiden “Zero Two” Wessels claim first. University of Pretoria’s Rucille “Rucesh_15” Ramlal came second and Varsity College’s Pierce “Vortex” Robinson placed third.

Clash Royale Final Score:

  1. UCT: 37 Points
  2. VC: 31 Points
  3. UP: 18 Points
  4. SU: 16 Points

Clash Royale will be streamed for the first time from next split. 

Rocket League

Rocket League is the only title at the moment to not attribute points due to the team structure of the game. Stellenbosch University’s Simonsberg placed first during a back and forth final with the UCT team. VC placed third.

It’s been a great first split of the year. The next split will begin on the 25th of July and run until the 4th of September.

ACGL will be introducing R2000 prize to the winning participant of each title and R8000 worth of equipment to the best placing institution to assist with the internal growth of Esports. This will also be the last split to improve seeding for the USSA Final. The USSA final is scheduled to take place in Cape Town from the 30th of September until the 2nd of October.
